It's in our name: Avalon Organics. It represents our commitment to organic agriculture because it reaches the highest ideal of sustainability -- delivering benefits to the soil, to farmers, to the environment and to our customers. We intentionally use beneficial, certified organic botanicals and oils in our products that will produce a measurable expansion of organic acreage cultivation.

Our decision to use certified organic herbs, organic essential oils and organic plant oils, has two-fold reasoning behind it. The first reason, always, is to choose ingredients that are gentle, safe, effective and sensually stimulating. The second is to choose ingredients that will stimulate and encourage the growth of organic agriculture. Our ingredients fall into three main classes: organic herbal extracts, organic essential oils and organic vegetable oils. All of our organic ingredients are certified and comply with the standards set by the National Organic Program (NOP) and we also actively support organic research and education.

Organic Herbal Extracts: We use an assortment of certified organic herbal extracts infused in purified water to impart therapeutic benefits to our products. The herbs, flowers and fruits that make up our infusion may include: Calendula, Chamomile, Ginkgo, Green Tea, Honeysuckle, Lavender, Lemon Peel, Peppermint, Rosemary and Wild Yam.

Organic Essential Oils: Rare and expensive, you won't find many companies utilizing organic essential oils in their products. Because they are not yet widely used, there is not enough demand to increase supply and lower costs. We use these therapeutic aromatic oils is to help encourage the growth and expansion of organic acreage under cultivation. We use organic Lavender, Lemon, Ylang Ylang, Peppermint, Rosemary, Geranium and Chamomile.

Organic Plant Oils: Organic plant oils add richness and depth to our products. They also require a great deal of organic acreage cultivation, which supports organic farmers and efforts of sustainability. We use organic plant oils such as Sunflower, Babassu, Flaxseed and Coconut. We also use other organic agricultural ingredients such as certified organic cocoa butter.

Supporting Organic Research, Education and Certification: We believe in the value of the USDA National Organic Program and organic certification. We list all our organic certifiers on our labels. We are an active member of the Organic Trade Association's Personal Care Task Force -- a council of personal care manufacturers, farmers, certifiers and retailers with the goal of making recommendations for a future organic personal care labeling standard.

  • Organic Trade Association -- encourages global sustainability through promoting and protecting the growth of organic trade.
  • Organic Center for Education and Promotion -- dedicated to spreading credible, scientific information about the benefits of organic.
  • American Botanical Council -- the leading not-for-profit organization on the spread of knowledge related to plant-based medicine.
